Tips for Photographing Toddlers

Planning your next portrait session with me? Of course you are! Let me share with you my top 5 tips for preparing your toddler for our time together! Hint – the tips are really for YOU! Let’s work together to set your little one up for success. I find the most successful sessions are the ones where parents follow my tips for session prep, and most of all, go with the flow. I provide a full session preparation guide to help you plan for our time together so you can feel confident during our time together!

Often my families start their session telling me “I have no idea how he’s going to behave for this!” or “She can be quite a handful!” But really, the true magic comes when you as a parent let go of expectations. Let go of Pinterest visions. Let go of what you see on social media. Focus on just enjoying the time with your family. Think of it as a family hang out, with a photographer in tow! I have been photographing children for over 14 years. I have been a parent for (gulp!) 19 years. I know how kids tick. I know when they’re overstimulated or hungry. I know when I can approach them for silly faces, and I know when I should back up and photograph them from afar. I have been called the baby whisperer on more than one occasion, but did you know I’m a toddler whisperer, too?! They’re kinda my specialty. So take a read through my top 5 tips for getting your little one camera ready, and then let’s make some magic!
